“Black Consciousness is an attitude of mind and a way of life, the most positive call to emanate from the black world for a long time” - Biko

Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) was founded in the 60s by a group of black students in South Africa. The objectives were to unite all black victims of white racism and fight against the Apartheid, They claims that there are three demands which are non-negotiable:
     -One man, one vote.

     -Redistribution of land.

     -Redistribution of wealth.
One of the movement founders was Stephen Biko, a medical student. Some important persons of this movement were: Nelson Madela, Robert Sobukwe,...
This movement had many problems with the authority and the government, the members were banned (like Biko) or send to prision, Mandela stay 27 years in jail. Also there were confrontation like the 16 June 1976 in Soweto 176 blacks were killed by the South African Security Forces, as student marched to protest the use of African Language in schools.

This movement was not only present in South Africa but all around the world, in the USA there was important persons like Malcom X ( Killed for his opinion of equality) or the boxer Muhammad Ali who lose his championship because he protest against the Government refusing the take part of the army.
